Why was my debit card transaction declined?
When your card is declined, it could indicate a problem with the card or with the transaction. Below are the most common reasons for declined transactions, and how to handle them.
Card Declined Reason | What to do Next |
Insufficient Funds | Transfer money from Save to Spend, Deposit Cash, Deposit a check, or transfer money from a linked bank or peer to peer service to fund your account. |
Incorrect Pin | Make sure you have entered the correct PIN, Try using “Credit” instead of “Debit” to bypass PIN entry, or Reset your PIN. Once the wrong pin has been entered multiple times, the card will be locked for security purposes for 24 hours. |
Card not Activated | Be sure to activate your physical card prior to use. |
Card is Expired | Aspiration automatically mails you a new physical card when it expires. If you have not received it, or need a new digital card, email support@aspiration.com. Please include your current mailing address in the request. |
Information Mismatch | Ensure that your name, phone number, email address and physical address, including zip code, entered for payment completely matches the info in your Aspiration account. Update any mismatching info and try again. |
Incorrect CVV, Card number or Expiration Date | Verify that the information you entered for payment matches the information on the back of your card. Access your Card Details in the app or website by tapping “View My Card” on the home screen. |
Card is Frozen | You can freeze and unfreeze your own card in the app. If you don’t see the option to unfreeze, there could be a security flag to review. Call us for support. |
Exceeded Spending Limit | You can spend $4000 in Debit Card transactions per day. If you’ve reached the limit on your physical card, you can try using your digital card and vice versa. To spend a larger amount in a day, consider making a transfer, using our Payment app, sending a paper check or sending a wire. |
Something else | Some transactions may be declined for security reasons, and certain merchants can be blocked by Mastercard. You can try another payment method, or call us for support. |
If you’re not able to troubleshoot the reason for the decline with the chart above, please call us so we can help troubleshoot the issue with you on the phone.
