What are Savings Pods?
Savings Pods are goal-based “buckets” inside your existing GreenFi Savings account. Instead of keeping all your money in one lump sum, you can create separate Pods for the things that matter most to you—like an Emergency Fund, Vacation, Rent & Bills, Home Projects, or other short- and medium-term goals.
Each Pod is simply a way to organize and set aside money for a specific purpose while keeping everything in one place:
- You still have one GreenFi Savings account. Pods just give that balance clearer structure.
- Money in Pods earns the same Annual Percentage Yield*, stays FDIC-insured, and remains fossil-fuel-free, just like the rest of your GreenFi deposits.
- Funds you move into a Pod are set aside until you decide to move them back, helping protect money you don’t want to casually or accidentally spend.
In short, Savings Pods help you see exactly what each dollar is for—without opening more accounts or leaving climate-friendly banking at GreenFi.
*Additional Terms and Conditions apply. The interest rates above are variable rates established by GreenFi and may be changed at any time by GreenFi, in its sole discretion, without any advance notice to you. Changes to interest rates may change the corresponding APY(s) described above, will be posted on this greenFi rate Sheet, to your Account, and will be visible on the GreenFi home page. Fees may reduce earnings. For complete details, refer to the Interest Rate disclosure on our policies page, and the GreenFi Interest Rate Card.
Create a Savings Pod
On the app or web:
- Sign in to your GreenFi account.
- Go to your Savings account.
- Look for the Savings Pods section and tap/click Create a Pod (or Add a Savings Pod).
- Choose what you’re saving for (for example: Emergency Fund, Recurring Bills, Travel, or another goal).
- Give your Pod a name (you can also choose an emoji or category if available).
- Optional: Set a goal amount and/or target date for your Pod.
- Review your details, then tap/click Create Pod.
Once created, you can move money into your new Pod from your Savings account.
Things to know
- You still have one GreenFi Savings account; Savings Pods are “buckets” inside that account.
- Money in Pods earns the same APY and remains FDIC-insured just like the rest of your Savings balance.
- Money you move into a Pod is set aside and not counted in your Available Savings Balance until you move it back. Keep this in mind if you’re using your Savings account for payments or transfers, as you’ll need sufficient funds in your Available Savings balance for those activities.
Move Money Into or Out of a Savings Pod
You can move money between your GreenFi Savings account and your Savings Pods at any time.
Add money to a Savings Pod (Deposit to Pod)
- Sign in and go to your Savings account.
- In the Savings Pods section, select the Pod you want to fund.
- Tap/click Add money, Move money, or Deposit to Pod.
- Enter the amount you want to move from your Savings Available Balance into the Pod.
- Review the details, then tap/click Confirm.
The money will be moved instantly from your Savings available balance into the Pod.
Withdraw money from a Savings Pod (Return to Savings)
- Sign in and go to your Savings account.
- In the Savings Pods section, select the Pod you want to withdraw from.
- Tap/click Withdraw, Move money, or Return to Savings.
- Enter the amount you want to move back to your Savings (up to the Pod’s current balance).
- Review and tap/click Confirm.
Once the money is back in your Savings account, it becomes part of your Available Savings Balance and can be used for transfers, bills, or withdrawals as usual.
Things to know
- Transfers between Savings and Pods are instant and free (standard account limits and timing still apply).
Money in Pods is not available to cover outgoing payments or transfers until you move it back to Savings. - Money you move into pods never leaves your savings account. Moving money out of a pod returns it to your Available savings balance.
Edit or Manage a Savings Pod
You can update a Pod’s name, emoji/category, goal amount, or target date at any time to match your real-life plans.
How to edit a Pod
- Sign in and go to your Savings account.
- In the Savings Pods section, select the Pod you want to edit.
- Tap/click Edit Pod or the settings/“…” menu.
- Update any of the following:
- Pod name
- Emoji/category
- Goal amount
- Target date
- Review your changes, then tap/click Save or Update Pod.
Your updated Pod details will show immediately in your Pods list and progress view.
Things to know
- Editing a Pod’s name or emoji does not affect your balance.
- Editing the goal amount or target date only changes how progress is displayed; it does not move money in or out of the Pod.
- All Pod updates are recorded in our internal audit trail so Support can help if you have questions about a change.
Delete (Close) a Savings Pod
You can delete a Savings Pod you no longer need. Before you delete it, you’ll need to move any remaining funds back to your Savings account.
How to delete a Savings Pod
- Sign in and go to your Savings account.
- In the Savings Pods section, select the Pod you want to delete.
- If the Pod has a positive balance:
- Tap/click Withdraw or Move money,
- Transfer the full Pod balance back to your GreenFi Savings account.
- Once the Pod balance is $0, tap/click Close Pod or Delete Pod (usually found in the Pod settings/“…” menu).
- Confirm that you want to close/delete the Pod.
After deletion, the Pod will be removed from your list. Any previous activity may still appear in your historical records.
Things to know
- You cannot delete a Pod while it still has money in it.
Deleting a Pod does not affect your overall Savings account; funds are returned to your Available Savings Balance first. - If you delete a Pod by mistake, you can create a new one, but the original Pod ID and history will not be reused.
